TAMIKO B. HERRON
Attorney
For the people — some people merely give lip service to this sentiment, but for Attorney Tamiko B. Herron, it’s a way of life. Growing up, her mother instilled a work ethic in her that few can replicate. Her mother had her at 18 years of age and often worked multiple jobs, maintaining full-time hours with full benefits while raising her two children. She had a wonderful career retiring as an Office Manager from the Department of Community Action in Riverside.
Overcoming less than ideal circumstances, Tamiko understands first-hand how a split-second occurrence has the potential to disrupt lives. She has learned that defying the odds in the courtroom — and beyond — is not for the weak-hearted or something you can derive solely from academic endeavors. Instead, it’s something you can only obtain from pure grit and tenacity.
Tamiko channels these well-deserved lessons into obtaining results for clients and has devoted more than three decades of her career to helping victims of personal injury, discrimination, harassment, and abuse regain control of their lives. She has been with Owen, Patterson & Owen since 2000 because of the firm’s commitment to securing justice for personal injury victims. In support of its endeavor, she has successfully negotiated multi-million dollar settlements in addition to her involvement in high-profile cases.
Reflected by her skillful mediations, awards, and accolades, Tamiko is well recognized for her legal achievements. The Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association named her Lawyer of the Year for her outstanding contributions and service to the legal community. In addition to her accomplishments as an attorney, Tamiko has held various leadership positions, indicative of her ability to lead not only in the courtroom but also throughout Los Angeles County. From 2007 to 2008, she was president of the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association and a board member of the San Fernando Bar Association. A thought leader in the legal community, she has penned various articles for the San Fernando Valley Bar association and has been featured in Elite magazine.
Tamiko’s personal ties to Southern California go beyond her current zip code. A native of California, she received her undergraduate degree from UCLA and her law degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law. It was while attending law school that her passion for social change and justice intensified. Spending summer breaks observing civil court hearings and interacting with judges was the catalyst for her life’s mission to even out the playing field for those plagued by poverty. She began her law career in the public sector, where she fought to preserve the rights of those less fortunate in need of adequate housing and provided legal aid to victims of domestic violence.
Tamiko transitioned to the private sector and became an active member of the plaintiff’s bar in 1995. Her exposure to both the public and private sectors makes her not only versatile, having dealt with various segments of society, but also relatable as she exhibits both compassion and levelheadedness in high-pressure situations.
The same reason that initially drew Tamiko to the legal field is the precise reason she continues to fight for clients day after day: liberty and justice for people who have been injured or victimized by discrimination.
When Tamiko’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family and traveling the world.
